Kazuha was pondering her current situation as she walked to Heiji's. She made a deal with Eris. She got her voice back...but she could never say anything to Heiji again. The thing was...she didn't believe she COULD avoid it. It was natural to talk to Heiji.

But for the time, she did have her voice. And who was to say there was another way to get it back. So she was wondering...how long could she keep quiet around Heiji? And what she would say that broke the deal?

She sighed as she walked up to his front door. Well, that didn't matter now! As far as he knew, she had problems with her throat and couldn't talk, so it was nothing to worry about! They hadn't hung out in so long, she wanted to see him up, alive and well.

Though she still had to wonder how THAT happened too.

...when had her life gotten weird?

No, now isn't the time for that. Now is the time to hang out with your best friend and have fun with him again! She told herself and knocked on the door.

Heiji was the only one home for the time being. His father was working and his mother had gone out to get something to make for supper. But it was all right. He'd been along with Kazuha thousands of times since they were little. It's not like they would be doing anything.

He stared at himself in the mirror. Three bright new scars decorated his torso. Two more to match the first one in his stomach and a third in his left shoulder. They were very stark against his skin. Still new.

They shouldn't have scarred yet, if he'd healed naturally. They'd still be very raw and only together with the help of many gross stitches. But a goddess had healed him and now he was as good as new.

except for three shiny new scars.

Hearing the knock on the door, he hurriedly pulled on a shirt and moved to go downstairs. Speaking of which, eris had also cursed Kazuha, who lied to him about her condition. Probably to keep him from worrying. It still bothered him, but it's not like she could actively tell him.

He stopped in front of the door, hesitating. What could he do?

Shaking it off, he grinned brightly and opened the door.

Kazuha smiled brightly when he opened the door, holding up a hand in greeting. She did a quick once over.

He seemed all right. No obvious sign of pain. So the mystery healing worked?

He moved aside to let her in, greeting her brightly. "Ya get t' pick the first movie, okay?" He drawled. "I got water on t' make ya some tea, but I wasn't sure what kind of snacks t' make up. Didn't know if yer throat would be able to handle em."

Kazuha paused for a moment before tapping his arm very softly and making an eating motion. Soft snacks would be best for what her 'condition' was supposed to be. She smiled and headed for the living room to chose the first movie. At least he seemed to have bought the ruse.

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Bought it. Yup. That's definitely what he did. He sighed softly as she left and returned to the kitchen, making up some snacks for the both of them and finishing the drinks.

Now, he couldn't juggle nearly as well as Kuroba, but he managed to get everything into the living room without spilling.

Movies were really the best thing right now, if she couldn't talk.

He watched her flip through the DVDs for a moment and didn't realize a sad expression sat on his face. Who would have thought he'd miss hearing her voice this much.

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
Kazuha looked through the DVDs and picked one up. It looks fairly new to the collection. She looked at the back. Mindless violence, cars, and machine guns.

...sounded fun. And they were apparently going to watch more movies, so some of the others she had her eye on could wait. So she stood up, holding up the Death Race DVD to get his opinion.

And then paused at the expression, opening her mth to ask what was wrong before she froze. Right...no talkie.

So instead she tilted her head, looking at him questioningly.

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
He shook his head, realizing that he shouldn't be moping like that, and shrugged. "Sure. I haven't watched it yet. Seems interestin'." The sad look was wiped away without an answer and he flopped down on the couch a little harder than necessary.

Kazuha frowned at that. That was...weird. She'd have to write him a note later to ask about it. For the moment, she put in the DVD and moved to sit down next to Heiji, smiling at him slightly, hoping the sadness wasn't a bit deal.

Heiji grinned and offered her the tea before turning on the movie.

The entire idea behind the plot made him a little ill; the thought that anyone's law system could get so bad to resort to this went against everything he ever believed in, but as a movie of its genre it wasn't bad.

Kazuha couldn't quite understand why a race that lets the most ruthless criminal gain his freedom was a good idea, but after turning off the logical, justice minded part of her brain, it was a pretty good action flick. And she even managed to keep from being too vocal at all the explosions and cool things.

That was, until the Chinese girl got hit by the drill, letting out a very creeped out and horrified squeak. No one should go out that way!

That part was just OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Heiji glanced down at her, a bit confused but a suspicion confirmed. If she were still cursed, she wouldn't have been able to make a sound at all, not even a hoarse squeak.

But if she weren't cursed anymore, why wasn't she talking to him?

He at least let it wait until the movie was over before plastering an 'I'm onto you' look all over his face.
From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
It took a few moments before Kazuha realized what she had done, her eyes widening even as the carnage continued on screen. Did she really makes a noise? or did she just imagine it.

She glanced at Heiji. And if she had...did he hear it?
From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
When the movie finished, Heiji stood up to get himself a new drink, not saying anything. When he came back, he tilted his head and offered her a soda.

"You're no longer cursed, are ya?" He asked.

Yay payback to sadistic lady~!

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
She couldn't tell. Everytime she glanced at him during the movie, she couldn't tell if he heard or not. Maybe...maybe he didn't? After all, it wasn't that loud of a noise and there were a lot of explosions and screams and car noises. So maybe...

She reached for the soda when he offered it, her hand freezing part way as he spoke, her eyes widening in shock. He knew...he KNEW about the curse?! But...

Well, she hadn't locked that post. He probably looked. How could she have been stupid enough to think he wouldn't figure it out? But why hadn't he said anything?!

hehehe boom

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Heiji stood silently when she didn't answer; didn't even try to defend herself.

Then he fought to keep that sad, upset expression off his face. "Why won't ya talk t' me?"

Kazuha opened her mouth, wanting to explain, but of course she could see how that would end. She closed her mouth again, looking guilty and looked away.

Curse Eris. Curse Eris and whatever made her a sadistic bitch.

Heiji winced and wiped a hand over his face, forcing himself to calm down. She looked just as hurt as he felt but...

"Fine." He sighed, slumping back onto the couch. "Ya can put in the next movie."

Kazuha's head whipped up to face him again. No, no, she didn't want him to misunderstand! She reached out, grabbing his hand, shaking her head, trying to get him to understand it wasn't like that! It wasn't like she didn't want to talk to him!

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
"Why me!?" He snapped. "Why can't ya talk t' me!?" He almost wanted to make her let go of his hand but he wasn't THAT mad.

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
Kazuha flinched at the snap. This had been what she was afraid of in telling him. But what could she do? If she got someone else to do it, who was to say she wouldn't just be cursed again? And at least this way, if she had to, she could talk to him one last time before she lost her voice again.

She looked at him pleadingly and looked around before grabbing the Death Race DVD and held it up to point at the price tag. She still hated it had to be HEIJI, but either way, she wouldn't have been able to talk to him.

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Heiji looked between her and the case, confusion evidently warring with the anger on his face. He shook his head and sat back.

He got it. Of course he got it. It just proved that he, himself, was in for it sometime in the future. A goddess didn't do favors.

But it still hurt. His own best friend wouldn't (couldn't?) talk to him. "Just, pick out another movie."

Date: 2009-02-04 11:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
No. No way was she leaving it just like that. Not when he looked hurt. She dropped the case and took his hand again, looking at him pleadingly. She wanted to say his name. She wanted to reassure him. She wanted to TALK to him! This wasn't fair.

He was her best friend. It wasn't natural not to talk to him.

"Don't look at me like that." He insisted. "What am I supposed t' do? Nothin'. There's nothing I -can- do."

Kazuha shook her head. That wasn't what she meant! She looked at him, looking lost for a few moments before she reached forward and touched the string for the omamori around his neck, tugging on it a bit. They were still friends, she still cared! They still had the bond of metal, just like always. She just...couldn't talk. That didn't change the bond and she wanted him to understand that.

Date: 2009-02-05 04:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
He looked down at the omamori around his neck, silent. Since he finally got out of the oregon thing he'd put it on and hadn't taken it off.

"Stupid." He said after a moment, fighting not to smile. "Go put in the next movie before I drink yer soda."

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
Kazuha stared at him intently for a few moments, thinking on his response and watching his expression before she smiled a bit, looking relieved before she nodded and went to the DVDs. They saw the action film, now...

She picked up a DVD. So Heiji's mom did get it. She put in Pride and Prejudice before coming back to the couch to get her soda before Heiji stole it.

Heiji only half paid attention to the movie, concerned for his friend. Would it be worth it to try and talk to eris? He knew he already owed the goddess, no matter what she said to the contrary, but this was Kazuha.

Though, she could still talk to other people, right? Just not him.

It wouldn't hurt to ask, though, right?

Date: 2009-02-09 12:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
It was probably a bad sign, that Heiji wasn't making some comment by halfway through the movie. Something about it being girly or sappy or SOMETHING, but he was silent.

Kazuha watched him from the corner of her eyes. He was definitely distracted and...she felt guilty for it. She didn't want him to worry. She sighed silently before leaning over to rest her head on his shoulder. She couldn't talk, so she'd comfort as best she could.

Heiji jumped slightly in surprise when she leaned on him, and looked at her.

Crap, he was doing that thinking thing again, wasn't he? "Sorry." He muttered sheepishly.

Kazuha looked at him worriedly and put her hand on his. She didn't want him to worry. Even if she couldn't talk to him...it'd be all right, right?

He smiled and moved to wrap his arm around her shoulders. "S'all right, okay? It won't last forever."

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
There was a brief pause before she looked at Heiji worriedly. No, Kazuha didn't want him to get involved with Eris too!

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
He blinked. "What? I'm not gonna do anything, ahou!" She didn't need to speak for him to get what she was thinking. They HAD known each other just about all their lives.

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
Kazuha gave him a suspicious, and slightly annoyed look. He SAID he wasn't going to do anything, but after saying it wouldn't last, it was hard to believe him.

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Heiji frowned and moved to take his arm back. She didn't need to give him that look.

Sure, he was thinking of doing just what she suspected he'd be doing, but that didn't mean she had to know him so well!

From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
Kazuha grabbed his arm. Oh, no he didn't! He wasn't getting away, and if his arm was there, he wouldn't be able to get away easily.

She looked at him pleadingly, hoping he'd say something a bit more reassuring that he wouldn't do what she was worried about.

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Heiji settled his arm back and stared at her, his expression clearly saying how stupid he thought she was being right now. "I'm not gonna get myself int' any more trouble than I already am, all right?"

Kazuha almost relaxed after the not gonna until the rest registered.

Already was?

She looked at him in confusion. What trouble?!

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
Oh...shit.

QUICK Heiji! Distraction tactic 26!

"What do ya got me watchin?" He drawled, staring incredulously at the TV, as if he didn't see her look.

Trouble...trouble...trouble.

The kidnapping? Did they ever catch the criminals? The reason he was healed? That dangerous thing he talked about before?

She glared and grabbed his face and turned it towards her, glaring at him, demanding with her serious, and very annoyed, expression that he tell her the truth.

Date: 2009-02-09 03:01 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
He could feel his willpower breaking. No, shattering. Into a million different pieces.

How could she DO that??

Now, what to tell her that didn't compromise...well, everything?

The only thing that had almost nothing to do with it.

"eris was the one who healed me, okay? She said there was no price, but I don't believe her. I'm already in trouble. At least asking won't hurt anythin', right?" He looked upset by it. Cause he hadn't said yes or no to the healing. He was grateful, sure, but he hadn't actually made a decision.

Date: 2009-02-09 03:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] aikido-2-dan.livejournal.com
Kazuha's eyes widened in horror. He...he what?!

She had to pay never talking to him to get back the voice SHE STOLE! What would she charge for something that wasn't even caused by her? And healing him that much?!

She looked at him worriedly, looking like she was afraid he might suddenly burst into flames or something of the like.

He winced. It had really been bothering him. "It couldn't hurt anymore t' ask at least." He muttered.

Kazuha shook her head wildly. No, no, if he didn't ask, she might forget! Letting her forget was better!

From: [identity profile] kendo-taisho.livejournal.com
She wasn't going to forget. "All right, all right. I won't say anything."

Kazuha sighed in relief. Now she just had to hope Eris DID forget. Even if it did seem unlikely...
